Removal of Grace Kelly's coat-of-arms

[edit]

I got this response from the Ireland's Office of the Chief Herald about Grace Kelly's coat-of-arms by Heralder when I asked them to verify the arms:

"Thank you for your enquiry which has been passed to me for attention. The short answer to your question is that no one has a right to the use of another's arms. Arms are property. Using the Kelly arms which you describe, or any other pronominal coat, is much akin to claiming a right to drive away another's motor car on the basis that owner and thief have the same surname. In Ireland a right to arms is dependent upon a Grant of Arms from the Chief Herald of Ireland either directly or to an ancestor. I should point out that Kelly is a widespread surname known to have arisen in several different places throughout Ireland so by no means are all Kelly's related. Despite anything which you might have heard or read there is no such thing as clann or sept arms nor has there ever been."

Due to this, I would recommend removing the coat-of-arms from Grace Kelly's Wikimedia page and Wikimedia Commons. Obversa (talk) 14:48, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
