  • October 3 – The Loop Elevated (1.79 miles/2.88 km) in downtown Chicago is opened for service. Lake Street Elevated trains are routed around the Loop, Metropolitan West Side Elevated train began using the Loop on October 11, and South Side Elevated trains began using the Loop on October 18.[8]
  • October – Construction begins in Djibouti City on the Addis Ababa - Djibouti Railway.
