Please name the scholarly English sources and references that were used to translate Wojna kokosza to Chicken Wars. No original research, please. Dr. Dan 03:31, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What other name would you suggest then? //Halibutt 06:42, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My suggested name would be invented, and original research. Dr. Dan 06:51, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dan, you're apparently missing the spirit behind the WP:NOR. It seems obvious that at times this encyclopaedia describes phenomena that have not been mentioned in any English-language publication, yet would have a perfectly valid name if the original name is translated. Translation is not research, you know (well, to be precise, it's not in the sense of WP:NOR). WP:NOR would be applicable in a case where someone would bring up a better name for a phenomenon that already has an established name. I'm afraid there's no mention of this "war" in English publications though - or at least I couldn't find such reference. Davies? //Halibutt 15:43, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is Chicken Wars your invention, or do you have scholarly English sources and references that were used to make the translation? Please don't make me ask you a third time. And yes, I read your obsfuscation that you call my missing the spirit, behind the WP:NOR. A simple, to the point, answer would be more helpful. Dr. Dan 04:11, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I already asked above. Translation is not research and I'm afraid there's no mention of this "war" in English publications though - or at least I couldn't find such reference should suffice. Or should I reword that?
And let me repeat my question: what would be a better translation of the Polish name of wojna kokosza? //Halibutt 05:07, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you meant that you already answered above, rather than "I already asked above". Since there are no "sources" to work with, let's forget kurczak and kokosza, and call it whatever is acceptable to you (because frankly I don't give a damn, Scarlet), form of Rebellion of ..., that would make sense in English. While I'm at it, if there was one or two monographs wriiten about the subject in English 80 years ago, with poor and ridiculous translations by "scholars" who thought they had working knowledge of the English language (but repeatedly demonstrated that they did not), would we be "bound" by WP:NOR rules and have to leave it in error or call a conclave, to change it? Dr. Dan 05:28, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The other one

IIRC, there was a trade dispute between the EEC and US in the 1960s which was also named "The Chicken War". Drutt (talk) 18:45, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
