picture of bladee

[edit]

Why is there a picture of bladee in an article about Ecco2k? Can we change that? ByAnyMeansNeccesary1 (talk) 23:16, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ByAnyMeansNeccesary1: There are no free images of Ecco2K that can be uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, but there are free images of Bladee, and Bladee is relevant to the article.
Many people try to upload copyrighted images to Commons of Ecco2K, which are always deleted. Skyshiftertalk 00:06, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't quite understand. Are pictures of his on instagram copywrited? Didn't know that was how that worked but thank you for clarifying that, ByAnyMeansNeccesary1 (talk) 20:29, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ByAnyMeansNeccesary1: Yes, they are copyrighted, as most social media images are, unless the images explicitly have a valid Creative Commons license. Skyshiftertalk 21:17, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Saying Ecco was "presenting as female" seems quite a stretch.

[edit]

I feel like this misses the point of the LGBTQ+ themes in Ecco's work. Stating that Ecco's fashion and image disrupt gender norms in a broad, queer manner is one perspective, but asserting a definitive "presenting as female" identity lacks substantial evidence and appears presumptuous. The bio's rigid description overlooks Ecco's quasi-ambiguous exploration of such themes. Ecco's self-identification and romantic preferences have never been publicly stated, so I don't think it seems suitable to so flagrantly state a possibly erroneous fact. Hence, a broader term like 'queer' may better encapsulate its essence.

Overall, this seems like somene trying to mold Ecco's image into what they themselves believe it to be – and not what can actually be meaningfully deducted from a mere music video.o Would anyone have any objections to the removal of this specific statement? TVKR (talk) 23:12, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TVKR: Well, the article doesn't state that Ecco2K presents as female in general (which is what your comment seems to imply, unless I interpreted it wrong). It only states that Ecco2K presented as female specifically for the "Amygdala" music video. This is sourced to the 032c magazine article about Drain Gang, which states: "Ecco2K presents as female in the music video for 'Amygdala'". Skyshiftertalk 23:23, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Skyshifter To clarify, I believe the statement in the article is quite divisive (neither Ecco himself or any other sources mention the matter afaik), and personally I think it's too reductionist in general. I believe, in regard to Amygdala in particular, it would be more appropriate to say something along the lines of how gender is presented as a whole, considering gender non-conformity and a cis gender identity are not mutually exclusive, thereby meaning that they may not be strictly female presenting.
Objectively, it may not be in the best interests of the article to include an overly simplified tidbit without a larger view of the topic in general. TVKR (talk) 02:37, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It does seem too specific. I've removed that sentence. Skyshiftertalk 02:51, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Queer themes"

[edit]

I removed the section that claimed that Bladee and Ecco2K have incorporated "queer themes" into their work. The article doesn't describe how they did that, nor include confirmation from the artists how they did that, nor provide examples. -AndreyKva (talk) 03:14, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It does provide an example — Ecco2K's presentation in "Amygdala". The article had a sentence saying that, which was removed right before your edit, as you can see in the section above. Either way, I've now added attribution to the author. Skyshiftertalk 03:19, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I edited the section to remove the things about Bladee and the LGBT fans as that isn't reliable or verifiable. I left in that it is that writer's opinion that Arogundade has incorporated queer themes into his work and how the writer cited the "Amygdala" music video. AndreyKva (talk) 03:30, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds good. However, I don't think it's fair to completely remove the sentence about Drain Gang's LGBT listenership. I've added it back in a slighly reduced manner and attributed. Skyshiftertalk 04:08, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the section looks good now. Thank you. - AndreyKva (talk) 04:13, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well-written

[edit]

Lead

[edit]

Lead section seems out of order, it goes from 2013 to 2004. Should be reordered to be more chronological

  • "Having experience with graphics software since he was 5" > After gaining experience with graphics software from the age of five
  • "Alaska, and later joined the Swedish shoe brand Eytys" > he also joined Swedish shoe brand Eytys as a designer.
  • "release EP PXE"> release the EP PXE
  • "and Crest in 2022, the latter with Bladee" > and the collaborative studio album Crest in 2022 alongside Bladee.
    • All done!

1994-2012

[edit]
  • Arogundade was raised in Stockholm with his mother and in London with his father; he lived briefly in London, being mostly raised in the Hornstull area of Stockholm > "For a short time, he lived with his father in London; he spent most of his childhood with his mother in the Hornstull area of Stockholm.
  • "5. His dad" > five. His father
  • "create covers" > create album covers
  • "His interest for graphic design later expanded to include illustration and photography." > He also later became interested in illustration and photography.
  • "16-years-old" > 16 years old
  • "he managed to do that by talking online" > he managed to create the brand through online communication
  • "didn't know of his age" > were unaware of his age

2013-present

[edit]
  • "adopting the alias Ecco2K since then"> remove "since then"
  • "Originally part of Smög Boys, the four left and decided to create their own group"> The four had previously been a part of the musical group Smög Boys, before deciding to start a collective of their own.
  • "started playing his first solo live sets" > began to perform solo live sets for the first time.
  • "The next year, he walked the runway for Alyx Studio at Paris Fashion Week, and served as a panelist for the first "Challenge the Fabric" competition at London Fashion Week." > The following year, he modelled at Paris Fashion Week for Alyx Studio; he also appeared at London Fashion Week's "Challenge the Fabric" competition as a panelist.
  • "released his debut solo studio album, which was also a surprise album, E."> released E, his debut solo studio album, which was also a surprise album.
  • "29 January, and" > 29 January and
  • "24 February, and" > 24 February
  • "where Arogundade" > in which Arogundade
  • "both released"> Arogundade and Bladee released
    • Went with "they released" here
  • ""recorded amongst nature"." > recorded in the Swedish countryside
  • "a collaborative single with Bladee and Thaiboy Digital, "TL;DR", was released" > Arogundade released a collaborative single with Bladee and Thaiboy Digital titled "TL;DR".
  • "Ecco2K played" > He performed

Musical style

[edit]
  • "the lyrics aren't about the members, but "everyone else"" > their lyrics often reflect universal human experiences, rather than specifically their own.
  • "Regarding his work as Ecco2K, Arogundade tried to keep distance between the project and his personal identity: "Ecco is something I do; it's not who I am"> Arogundade has maintained separation between himself and his music, explaining that he does not see Ecco2k as representative of who he is as a person.
  • "wrote to Pitchfork that, along with Bladee, Arogundade produced dissociation music" > wrote for Pitchfork that Arogundade produced "dissociation music"
  • "sprite". Greene said, "The..." > sprite," adding that "the immersion...
    • Did something similar; another sentence in between needs separation so it doesn't get too long.
  • "Writing for the same website," > remove
  • "noted Ecco2K for his" noted Ecco2k's
  • "lyricism". Over"> lyricism, but that over
    • This makes the sentence too long.
  • "hyper-rap subgenres" and, in 2019, his debut album E consolidated his futuristic sound" > hyper-rap subgenres," consolidating his futuristic style with E in 2019.
  • "music videos for others"> music videos for other artists
  • "he said he is "trying" > he stated that he attemps to "express..."
  • "Arogundade initially tried to maintain his privacy and secrecy. For some time, his Instagram account was private, and he doesn't like to publish much information about himself" > Initially, Arogundade attempted to maintain privacy and secrecy regarding his personal life; until 2020, he kept his Instagram account private, as he dislikes making his own personal information public.
    • Until 2018 according to the source, but done.
  • He tried to distance himself from his "obsessive" fanbase, finding it strange that he's "such a big part of other people's lives", but found it difficult as, in his words: "I had my phone and my social media hacked by my fans, I've had music stolen and leaked by my fans, and I've had family members contacted". > Although he has attempted to distance himself from Drain Gang's "obsessive fanbase", in the past, his fans have hacked his cellphone and social media accounts, leaked his music, and contacted his relatives. He commented that he found it "strange...to be such a big part of other people’s lives."
  • "Arogundade is particularly known for constantly changing his hairstyle" > since this whole paragraph is related to his privacy/personal life, this sentence would probably fit better in the previous paragraph.
    • Decided to delete it as it's trivial information.

@Skyshifter Just went through and made a couple minor changes of things I missed. Other than that, I couldn't see anything else in this article that prevented it from being GA status, so I'm going to close it here as a pass. Thank you for your prompt responses and positive contributions, and congratulations! Kimikel (talk) 19:26, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
