b vs B

[edit]

Is it 'b-hadron' or 'B hadron'? Both spellings are used. RJFJR (talk) 20:49, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty sure it's b-hadron. b-hadron is short for "bottom quark containing hadron" (so-named after the symbol of the bottom quark, b). "B hadron" is confusing at best, as many would think "do you mean a B meson?" since mesons are hadrons. It's possible that some use "B hadron" for "bottomness/beauty-containing hadron" (B or B′ being the symbol for bottomness), but that's just awful and confusing. Either way, b-hadron is better.
