What's with Spindler nowadays? Is he alive? If so, what is he doing? Is his health OK? Demf 19:07, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When he was at Apple, he got easily stressed; he was never suited for the job of a CEO. I guess he's still alive, I don't think he ever liked much publicity. — Wackymacs 19:10, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So apparently he passed away (looks confirmed by Jean-Louis Gassée): https://www.macg.co/aapl/2018/04/michael-spindler-ceo-dapple-de-1993-1996-est-mort-102113

wow..from the article: "Spindler died of illness in 2017." yes, "Illness" kills quite a few people every year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.66.96.255 (talk) 19:01, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Newton a failed project?

[edit]

the newton technology ecosystem never achieved it's potential but calling it failed project, at least during spindler's time strikes me as a stretch. newton got off to a very rocky start (mostly due to poor marketing that over-emphasized the immature handwriting recognition feature) and took a couple of iterations to mature. the platform became quite good and was poised to take off when the plug was pulled, apparently for reasons that had more to do with personalities and politics than the technical merits or market potential of the product line. please recall that despite much better initial marketing the macintosh got off to pretty rough start as well. it took foresight and perseverance to see the mac through the three or four product generations it took to become viable. i think the foresight and perseverance of spindler and amelio to nurture newton, sculley's ugly ducking through to swan status was also admirable. i'm not sure how to characterize it as "successful" may not be a great fit, but neither is "failed". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.38.196.235 (talk) 19:02, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
