Aircraft operated from RNAS Culdrose

[edit]

The aircraft they operate are hinted at in the article, but after visiting the public viewing area of the base, an info board claims they operate:

  • BAE Systems JetStream T.2
  • BAE Systems Hawk T.1
  • AgustaWestland Sea King ASaC.7
  • AgustaWestland Sea King HAR.5
  • AgustaWestland Merlin HM.1

Evidently this list is original research so can't head directly into the article, but I've plopped it here in talk in case anyone's curious... Mittfh (talk) 21:47, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is photography allowed at that site? You could always take a photo and upload it, and have a copy in the article. LessHeard vanU (talk) 12:49, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Those aircraft are operated there, you just need a source saying that. Shouldn't be too difficult try the navy website. P.S. It is the Westland Sea King, Agusta and Westland weren't merged when it was produced. QueenCake (talk) 18:32, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where is the History?

[edit]

Anyone going to write about the background to why Culdrose was here? Developed? Wartime records? etc —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.130.132.62 (talk) 09:03, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Brief history added, not time to research more detail at this point Chrisc le (talk) 19:25, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

700M

[edit]

Removed this section, as the squadron is now disbanded it no longer fitted in the squadrons based at Culdrose. If any one disagrees they can replace it into the article if they wish Chrisc le (talk) 16:50, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that, with the Merlin now a major asset of the Royal Navy, it could be included into a "Former Squadrons based at RNAS Seahawk" or similar, just so there is an encyclopedic reference to what was an important squadron of its time. There may even be a case for a redirect to such a heading for all squadrons mentioned, since it was likely an important element of having the helicopter accepted into service, even if by itself it hardly qualifies as a stub. A former squadrons section was a thought I had at the time as well; my thoughts were though that with the current day article still in quite infancy it could be to much to start such a list of its former sqadrons. Another thought I'm still entertaining would be that a section on the air stations role in the merlin overall would be a good idea, especially as at the moment such things as the merlin training facility aren't really given a mention in the current article; the role of 700M could then be discussed in this? "IATA code"

[edit]

CDR is the IATA code for Chadron Municipal Airport. There is no mention of IATA in the BBC reference cited. William Avery (talk) 11:29, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fair point, but the article does state that a code had to be created for it, CDR, as no code existed for it in the system, which I understood to use IATA codes. Matt.beddow (talk) 14:08, 18 May 2012 (UTC){{User:matt.beddow|matt.beddow]][reply]

Yes. That's the way I read it the first time. William Avery (talk) 20:09, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
