Spelling: Shirley or Shirlie?

[edit]

Does anyone have any reliable information about how Shirlie Holliman's name is spelled? In Martin Kemp's autobiography he spells it 'Shirlie' throughout and most interviews with her online spell her name in the same way, so I suspect 'Shirley' is a misspelling. I'll remove the 'ley' spelling for now. Jammycaketin (talk) 10:47, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the proposal was support for move. Moreover, her hubsand's consistent use of the name is reasonably conclusive.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 06:41, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed move to Shirlie Holliman

[edit]

I have so far found no reliable information to support the idea that Shirlie Holliman's name should be spelled 'Shirley'. As I mentioned above, Martin Kemp spells her name 'Shirlie' throughout his autobiography (I assume he knows how to spell his wife's name) and the few interviews she's done that I've found on the internet also spell her name that way. 'Shirley' tends to be found in newspaper articles where she's mentioned in passing (usually as Martin Kemp's wife) or on fan sites. At any rate, she seems to spell her name 'Shirlie', so I suggest the name of the article should be 'Shirlie Holliman' with a redirect from 'Shirley Holliman'. • Strong support. This is a WP:BLP issue. Good catch, and the case made seems clear-cut. But as the misspelling is common, we should go through the process here to try to reduce the number of times well-meaning people will move it back...! Andrewa (talk) 21:24, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
