Theophilus's son Jonathan

[edit]

"Archeological evidence confirms the existence of Theophilus the High Priest as an ossuary has been discovered bearing the inscription, Johanna granddaughter of Theophilus, the High Priest. The details of this ossuary have been published in the Israel Exploration Journal. Therefore Theophilus had at least one other son named Jonathan, father to Johanna."

I do not follow the reasoning of this statement in the article. How do you figure Theophilus had another son named Jonathan who was the father of Johanna from an inscription that reads: Johanna granddaughter of Theophilus the High Priest? Eupolis 16:26, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greek name?

[edit]

Is "Theophilus" really his name, or is it a translation into Greek of a Hebrew name that means "God-lover" or the like? --Jfruh (talk) 01:11, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is a translation of a Hebrew name ידידיה (Yadidiyah), which means friend of Yah.[1]
