[edit]

This template is starting to get quite cluttered. Aberdeenshire is broken up into 6 areas; Banff & Buchan, Buchan, Formartine, Garioch, Marr and Kincardine & Mearns. I suggest reordering the template so that the villages/towns are organised into their respective areas within the template, such as in Template:Aberdeen, but with areas instead of topics.

Another way of making it smaller could be to put towns in large letters and villages in small, such as in Template:Airports in Scotland Bobbacon 10:58, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Created some new Aberdeenshire places articles myself today, but haven't added them yet due to ongoing debate.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 17:01, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Updated to reflect the six committee areas within Aberdeenshire

[edit]

I've carried out a thorough scan of the previous template and split/sorted the primary settlements into each area (and the "place" list was almost exclusively settlements) and created 2nd level templates for each area with secondary settlements and other places of interest (hopefully more physical geography to follow, as well as just castles!)

Selection of "primary settlements" in each area was carried out using an indicator population of 500 in the 2004 Settlement Population Estimate, but with a few exceptions for the more sparsely population areas where smaller settlements (still ~300 at least, or historically much larger) are more significant.

Summary of changes from previous (18:13, 27 October 2007 Pencefn) version:

Settlements moved to area level: Banff and Buchan : Cornhill King Edward Pennan Buchan : Buchanhaven Inverugie Old Deer (places of interest) Crimonmogate Rattray Formartine : Auchterless Blackdog Collieston Foveran Methlick Garioch : Daviot Dunecht Echt Elrick Kinmuck Oyne Skene Kincardine and Mearns : Arbuthnott Catterline Findon Fordoun Maryculter Muchalls (other places) Crawton Netherley Marr : Crathie Logie Coldstone Ruthven Strathdon (places of interest) Blelack Cairn O' Mounth Lost Tullich

Removed for now; insignificant settlement at area level and/or stub entry only: Affleck Badenyon Bellabeg (within Strathdon) Bonnyton Brideswell Bridge of Muchalls Cammachmore

Removed for now; no link, not 500+ persons and/or not significant at area level: Allardice Blackhill Cairness Gowanhill Kirkton Leys Nethermuir New Leeds Rora - will be adding a few back in shortly at second level

Removed; other reasons : Cromar (actually an area, including Tarland)

Second level templates are as follows: Template:Banff and Buchan, Aberdeenshire places

Template:Buchan, Aberdeenshire places

Template:Formartine, Aberdeenshire places

Template:Garioch, Aberdeenshire places

Template:Marr, Aberdeenshire places

Template:Kincardine and Mearns, Aberdeenshire places

If for any reason a "primary settlement" is changed on 2nd level, please reflect on this template; or vice versa.

Thanks & trust this will help get things in order a bit. Harami2000 02:28, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just about finished tidying up 1st/2nd level template footers on towns/other settlements & places - current list of places now done & checking for stragglers, only. Harami2000 05:07, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
