happy new year

There was an opera world premiere in Frankfurt but I'm happily on vacation -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:58, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Thamks Gerda Arendt. I hope you are having a wonderful vacay :-) MarnetteD|Talk 22:25, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
I do! - Check out pics (click on songs), but I'm 3 days behind. Will try to add another day right now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:27, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
Today: my last DYK about a opera singer, background: User talk:Storye book#Elena Manistina, or: why Tchaikovsky's The Enchantress isn't on the Main page. - A must-see opera, only: we rarely get a chance, the performance I saw was only the second production in Germany. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:32, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
The pics are wonderful Gerda Arendt. Much learning for me at both links in the second post which I always appreciate. Fingers crossed that The Enchantress shows up on one of the streaming services one day. I got to see Christmas Eve (opera) on OperaVision last month so there is much hope for experiencing other little performed works in the future. Cheers.MarnetteD|Talk 02:33, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
Some more pics added, and a Bach cantata was on DYK 10 years ago --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:50, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
and now the rest - Melitta Muszely died, RIP - the other story is 10 years old OTD ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:07, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you Gerda Arendt. RIP indeed. I have come to appreciate those who teach music as much as those who perform it. The gift they give to the young is as important as that given to me as an audience member - if not more so. I have been following Joyce DiDanato's EDEN program through her posts on Instagram. Best wishes. MarnetteD|Talk 18:19, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

Best wishes

It was great working with you, and I'll miss you as I had into semi-retirment.

  1. Right now, I'm just to wrap up a lot of things around here that I meant to do like the Danzig crisis. It was great working with you, and I hope you are enjoying your retirement. Best wishes! 兔年快乐!--A.S. Brown (talk) 06:04, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for this message A.S. Brown and it is not a bother at all :-) My word life does have twists and turns doesn't it? Things are moving in a different direction than when we first met. I hope it continues to do so! I have been spending time traveling through different film directors works. Last year included Federico Fellini, Agnes Varda and Wong Kar-wai. I'm about half way through Rainer Werner Fassbinder's Berlin Alexanderplatz (miniseries). Next up will be this massive collection of Ingmar Bergman's films. It has been an honor to edit alongside you here at the 'pedia. I am humbled and grateful for the time you have taken to share your life's journey with me. Please feel free to email me if you are so inclined - though, of course, there is no obligation to do so. Best wishes to you now and always. MarnetteD|Talk 23:33, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
Your welcome! I'm feeling more than a little sad because the encyclopedia has my refuge, where I go to create something beautiful and informative, and I'm already cut back on my contributions.
That sounds a most interesting collection of films. Lots of striking images, intimate moments, searing drama and fantastical visions. I don't mean to sound like a snob, but is nice to write to somebody who can appreciate the finer aspects of culture. It has been a long time since I encountered anybody cultured, and it is so nice to know you. You one of the best people I met during my time here. E Having said that much, I'm true that I have met you and your friendship is well worth all these battles with the ill-informed people. I'll think I will take up your offer on an email. Your support and kindness is greatly appreciated here. I hope all is well and best wishes! --A.S. Brown (talk) 08:27, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
Apologies for the belated (very) reply A.S. Brown. I do appreciate the time and effort you've taken to write this. I have learned so much from this message. It breaks my heart to read of the things that happened to you all those years ago. As much as I wish I could there is nothing I can do to take away that pain. What I can say is that your work here has improved various WikiP articles immensely. There are people who you will never meet who will learn and benefit from what you have written. Many, many thanks. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 20:04, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much. Please forgive any errors as I am deadly sick with the flu right now and not feeling very good at all. I've had a hard life, though it is interesting in a perverse sort of way, but time only moves in one direction, and all one can do is try to make things better. Thank you for all your kindness, which is greatly appreciated. It is people like you who make Wikiepedia a great place. It has been a great pleasure working with you and I wish you the best.--A.S.
