InfodriveIndia - pls advise

[edit]

Hello , I am Rakesh Saraf , Director InfodriveIndia. InfodriveIndia is a free International Trade Resource with huge statistical and database driven content of around 200,000 pages. Our website has been reported as spam. [1]. I and my colleagues have added few links of main categories of our content in the most appropriate and related categories of wikipedia. I admit we may not be very familiar with wikipedia technical terms, but we have certainly added value to wikipedia in a ethical manner.

a) Links added meet the guidelines in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:EL#What_should_be_linked. b) links added don't have links on similar subject almost all the time. c) The content we have on our website is the most comprehensive and upto date then even the Govt sources. d) Any user with exposure in International trade is welcome to check the above.

I read about Wikipedia not being a linkfarm and I appreciate the idea, however our content cannot be added directly in Wikipedia as a article ..as it is database driven and voluminous and WP:EL point 3.1.3 mentions that such links "Should be added". Can you guide us ..? In case we have done any technical mistakes ...can you advise what we need to do ? Thanks. Rakesh999991 12:37, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Twinkler - I havnt been active atall as you probably know but I am going to shift over to a new account because I want to become active again and I cant stand loose ends - eg using an account whick people can see has not been active in the past because then people could assuma im not reliable ect anyway - I hope that you will still be my adopter after I switch but its up to you. Status Button

[edit]

Of course! You need to create a subpage titled User:Twinkler4/Status2 Then what you do is you put this text on the page: {{User:Twinkler4/StatusChange2|online}} and whenever you want to change the status, just delete the "online" and put "away." After you put that text on the page, you need to put this text on your User Page: {{User:Twinkler4/Status2}} and the button will be displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Additionally, you can put the same text ( {{User:Twinkler4/Status2}} ) on your talk page and the button will appear there too. I am sorry if those directions are hard to follow. If they are, please feel free to ask me questions on my talk page and I will help you. Cheers! Wikipediarules2221 23:30, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

It is demanded by the evolution of wiki pages that qualities of pages no longer fitting the environment will become rudimentary or nill in display and only remain stored in the genome history complex of the source control system. In plain English, I erased my other foolish remarks, but you can surely still see them in the revision history. --Ohadaloni 21:32, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'm a bit confused

[edit]

I was mostly feeling free talking to you on these pages knowing I can always blank or summarize the talks, and not clutter the pages with such information. It seems obvious that such newbee discussions will not last long. I was releived by the understanding that my daring foolishnesses will be erased with time, leaving traces in the revision history for inspection, but not publicly advertized for the rest of time. I have just blanked the sections that were above, which I myself added in the past few days while conversing with you, Only later to discover this is a no-no. Shouldn't there be forums then, where wiki's like me can be guided by you without having to embaress themselves with a stamp for life in front of the rest of planet? Its one things to be foolish in front of you, while the planet can catch it if they are quick, and yet another for wiki to catch it for them, so it can market my over-original thoughts for the rest of time. --Ohadaloni 21:32, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do I change the main title from "Ceratoid angler fish". to "Ceratoid Angler"? If this is admin only, then the question was: Is this the better style title for this page?. --Ohadaloni 17:27, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any page describing history of vandalism cases? --Ohadaloni 17:33, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, then let us say that once I decide that this should truly be the correct title for this page, I'll just ask you to change it. It will take a very long time before this page has any meaningful content. I have abdandoned researching this fish a while back, waiting for the wikipedia to come around on this. Only today it occured to me its time to re-visit the subject, and to my frustration, not much new info is there on the internet. So much for the rest of the internet, where I will continue to try and collect meaningful data for this page.

For the pedia I have no complaints save the (smile for the camera: joke arriving) fact that the wiki software told me that God lacks sufficient citation. I'm not a beleiver or anything, but I know some people who would be offended. --Ohadaloni 17:46, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I had a max audience of two with the guitar so far.

I'd like this text in the wikipedia somehow:

http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0006-3185(196910)137:2%3C332:RPNS(H%3E2.0.CO;2-W

It is about to be lost in the shelves of too much chaotic knowledge, and it seems like almost the reason for which wikimedia called itself a foundation.

What are the copyright issues, if any? Do I need to contact the source if I want permission to take the photo as is? If I just summarize some text, citing and referencing the source, are there any copyright considerations? How reliable can this be if the source later disappears? Is this also a verifiability concern? Are there any wikipedia general guidlines as to the reliabilty level of external links? (e.g. google rank...)?

The content of the text, a description of a historic dive where this fish was first discovered, is not relevant to these questions. I have yet to scrutiny it myself, regardless of the outcome of these discussions. --Ohadaloni 19:10, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to reference the http://en.wiktionary.org/ pages in the wikipedia, without showing the external link symbol. (Or, are there any future plans to make these two a single unit of cross-rferencing in this respect?) (It is somewhat of importance to be able to read text fluently, while difficult terms can be easily accessed.) --Ohadaloni 03:00, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

bow Thank you for your comments. I know the user is partial to the article (as you can tell on TerrisFan's userpage) cuz he is from Vermont, and TerrisFan is going to support him, because he/she is his adopter, but I don't see how they can even fathom how their arguments establish notariety. Oh well. I found a couple more VT daily newspapers that are completely un-notable and I think I'll nominate them later today. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Twinkler4,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Recent Changes Patrollers!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about technical proposals related to Recent Changes Patrol in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

  1. Adjust number of entries and days at Last unpatrolled
  2. Editor-focused central editing dashboard
  3. "Hide trusted users" checkbox option on watchlists and related/recent changes (RC) pages
  4. Real-Time Recent Changes App for Android
  5. Shortcut for patrollers to last changes list

Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.

Best regards, SteviethemanDelivered: 01:10, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
