Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Greek πορτοκάλι (portokáli), from Venetian portogallo, ultimately from Portuguese Portugal. Compare الْبُرْتُغَال (al-burtuḡāl, “Portugal”), taken directly from the Portuguese or through a Romance cognate.
