TestWM2018

This is the official home page for Wikimania 2018 in Cape Town.

Wikimania is the annual conference celebrating all the free knowledge projects hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation - Commons, MediaWiki, Meta-Wiki, Wikibooks, Wikidata, Wikinews, Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikispecies, Wikiversity, Wikivoyage, and Wiktionary - with three days of conferences, discussions, meetups, training, and workshops. Hundreds of volunteers and Free Knowledge leaders from around the world gather to discuss issues, report on new projects and approaches, and exchange ideas.

Themes of the conference include the advancement of Free Knowledge, the role of academic and cultural institutions within the movement, privacy and rights, and the role of technology to further those objectives. Wikimania 2018 will specifically focus on the gaps - gender, cultural, demographic and knowledge - and strategies for reducing them.

There are other related events: the pre-conference Hackathon where members of the technical community connected with Wikimedia projects gather to work and contribute to code.

The 2018 event is held in and around the Robert Leslie Social Sciences building and Jameson Hall on the upper campus of the University of Cape Town, in Cape Town, South Africa, from 18th July to 22nd July, 2018. All are welcome, whether you're an expert, enthusiast, beginner, or just curious!
