post apocalyptic video game genre

[edit]

@Kirilloparma: I mean, wht not?Shisma (talk) 20:46, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Shisma: This is a video game theme, not a genre, there should be a separate property for them (still surprised no one has proposed it yet). Genre is primarily based on gameplay, not on setting or anything else. This query means nothing because the statement genre (P136) >> post-apocalyptic video game (Q115101598) was imported by you from enwiki (example), especially with erroneously used property reference URL (P854) instead of Wikimedia import URL (P4656) and without moving the statement to a separate property for video game themes. All statements of this type should ideally be ranked deprecated or removed altogether since it is clearly wrong to use genre (P136) here. Just to be clear:
Red Dead Redemption 2 (Q27438121) is a western-themed action-adventure video game. Would it be correct to use action-adventure game (Q343568) as genre? The answer is yes, as it is directly related to gameplay. But a Western video game (Q116175427) as genre? The answer is no, as it is a setting, so here it is the same. Kirilloparma: post-apocalyptic film (Q1341051) on the other hand appearently is a genre. I don't care if it is. I just want to be able to query for it. Plus I appreciate consistency. Do we need a new property here and should it cover films as well? – Shisma (talk) 08:16, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Shisma: Well, actually a video game and a movie are veeery different things. By the way, this item besides instance of (P31) >> film genre (Q201658) also includes instance of (P31) >> film theme (Q59825918). Why post-apocalyptic film (Q1341051) is used as a genre for movies and if it is a genre at all, I think it is better known to the participants of the WikiProject Movies. Comparing the genres used by the WikiProject Video games and WikiProject Movies and mixing them is definitely not a good idea, we have very different approaches on this matter and for video games the genres are exactly based on gameplay, so yeah, we absolutely need a new property here. I will try to create a proposal this week with all the appropriate examples. I can't say the same for movies, as it should be discussed within the WikiProject Movies, they may need a similar property, but it shouldn't be conflated with video games. for video games the genres are exactly based on gameplay

I don't see why that has to be the case, but I'm not not very versed on video games 🤷. Please ping me in your proposal –Shisma (talk) 07:59, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
