266 Houses in Mohali Found with Dengue Mosquito Larvae; Health Department Takes Action

With the onset of the monsoon season, Dengue has bounced back in Mohali. The heath department have taken action regarding the same by destroying larvae found in 266 houses out of over 54k houses. The health officials have advised the residents to take essential steps to be safe from Dengue.

Chandigarh: The Mohali health department has increased its efforts to eliminate the deadly mosquito larvae, and in the last six months, larvae in 266 houses and 319 containers were destroyed.
With the arrival of monsoon, the dengue threat has bounced back in Mohali. These deadly aedes aegypti mosquito larvae are commonly found in dark, damp, and humid locations, a Times of India report said.
Dr Subhash, vector-borne diseases officer of the Mohali Health Department said that the larvae were found in coolers, tanks, pots, urns, bamboo plant containers, money plant containers and other household containers. He mentioned that all violators who received a third warning were issued challans, while first -time offenders were given warnings. He added that larvae were also found in 319 containers, tyres, tubes and other waste materials in commercial areas.
In total, 54,831 houses were checked in the last six months, with larvae breeding detected in 266 of them. Also, 1,55,604 containers at commercial sites were checked with larvae found in 319 of them, TOI report added.
Dr Subhash said that oiling process was conducted at all larvae detection areas and stagnant water points across the district to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. The health department has also encouraged the residents to take preventive measures such as keeping their surroundings clean, carefully disposing of waste materials, and regularly checking and cleaning water storage containers to prevent mosquito breeding.
Further the health department official advised the residents to use mosquito nets, wear long-sleeved clothing, and use mosquito repellents to protect themselves from mosquito bites.
